I trace my drawn pages on the boards that already have the borders and balloons using a lightbox. If necessary, I may make minor changes to the photos.
I sometimes paint and sometimes ink using black markers.
At this point, I don’t need to worry about painting beyond the boundaries since I’ve already scanned the clean pages with just balloons and walls and no art.

Remember how I said that I might need the borders cleaned?
This is the next phase. I used to scan my inked pages and fix problems like painting outside the walls or over speech balloons. I’m now using the previously approved boundaries.
In Photoshop, I smash my clean edges over the final work, reduce the opacity so I can see what I’m doing, and fix the corners.
Finding this took some time for me since a scanner sometimes skews things. However, I realized that if I did a “free transform” and concentrated on the four outside corners of the borders, the rest would fall into place.

9: Replace and repeal!
I don’t call it that. First, however, I must go through my previously lettered InDesign file and eliminate all of the border blocks before replacing my rough drawing with the completed image.
